Ingredients

- 1/2 cup cornstarch (or potato starch)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp paprika

- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk (or milk)
- Oil for frying (canola or peanut oil)
Instructions
- Slice onions into ¼-inch thick rings and separate gently.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings.
- In another bowl, pour buttermilk (or milk).
- Dip onion rings in buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then coat in flour mixture.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat until hot.
- Fry onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes total.
- Drain on paper towels and season with salt before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, try air-frying the coated onion rings instead of deep frying.
