Description

Crispy and flavorful onion ring chips that bring joy and nostalgia to every gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions (yellow or sweet)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch (or potato starch)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk)
  • Oil for frying (canola or peanut oil)

Instructions

  1. Slice onions into ¼-inch thick rings and separate gently.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings.
  3. In another bowl, pour buttermilk (or milk).
  4. Dip onion rings in buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then coat in flour mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat until hot.
  6. Fry onion rings in batches until golden brown, about 2-4 minutes total.
  7. Drain on paper towels and season with salt before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, try air-frying the coated onion rings instead of deep frying.
