- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon chai spice blend
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, chai spice, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the orange zest.
- In a separate bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg, then pour into the dry mixture and mix gently until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, shape into a 1-inch thick circle, and cut into wedges.
- Place on parchment-lined baking sheet and brush tops with melted butter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a vegan option, use coconut oil instead of butter and substitute the egg with a flaxseed or chia seed egg.
