Description
A nostalgic dessert featuring a buttery crust, rich caramel filling, and sweet chocolate, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add one egg and the vanilla extract; mix until well incorporated.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined. Press the dough into the prepared baking pan evenly.
- Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the remaining egg with brown sugar until blended, then fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the filling mixture over the pre-baked crust and return to the oven, baking for an additional 20-25 minutes.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan before slicing them into squares.
- Optionally, sprinkle sea salt over the top just after removing from the oven.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing. Don’t over-bake for a gooey filling.
